I’m so excited to get started on my new laundry room! I’ve teamed up with an amazing company that specializes in creating gorgeous barn doors and hardware. Everything is handmade and can be completely custom, depending on the design. They can create anything from industrial, modern, rustic or farmhouse. In fact all of those design styles describe our house, so this collaboration is just perfect! When I was first contacted by Rustica Hardware, I knew our laundry room would be perfect for a sliding door. Our laundry room is small and the existing swinging door really gets in the way, so a sliding barn door is going to be a great solution. Plus, our laundry room is visible from our living room, so now I will have a beautiful door to look at!
Before we collaborated on the design, I started browsing Pinterest for some inspiration and created a design board. For me, a design board really keeps me on track with where I want the design to go and I love referring back to it for even more inspiration. Plus once I created this, Rustica Hardware and their design team were able to get a better idea of the direction I was wanting to go and created a beautiful door to compliment my design.
I really want to go with a modern farmhouse look and want to add a some architectural interest on a feature wall, whether it be shiplap or board and batten. I will also be painting the room the same color as the rest of our house – Vaslpar Oatland’s Subtle Taupe. I keep dreaming of shiplapping the entire space, so I just might do that too!
I have some shelving in my laundry room already, but I will be lowering it and updating the decor. I love this inspiration from Brandi at Don’t Disturb This Groove. Her shelving is also on Home Depot’s Blog if you want to DIY them for yourself. I want to add some lighting above the shelving and I think I’ve found the perfect one. I will have to convert it to a plug in instead of hardwire, or hire an electrician. So because I haven’t decided on that part yet, I’m also looking at this wall lamp from Lowe’s. It’s half the price and already a plug in, of course I will angle them down as beautiful display lights.
I have plans to update our existing laundry basket to resemble this very expensive metal and canvas laundry hamper from CS Post & Co. Last year during Black Friday we got an amazing deal on our washer and dryer pictured in the e-design. We have the pedestals for storing our laundry detergent, fabric softer, and dryer sheets and I love them for hiding those unsightly items. Above our washer and dryer is a builder grade shelf that I will update to match my existing shelving. This shelving is pretty useless to me because I can’t reach anything on the shelf – #shortgirlprobs, so I will use it for storage with some wooden crates. And nothing says rustic laundry room better than a cotton wreath, mine is from Decor Steals.
I cannot wait to get started on this project and of course I will be sharing it with you all! Next week I will be back with some before pictures of our laundry room. Stay tuned!
