Because we live in a newer neighborhood and in a cul de sac, its trick or treat galore on Halloween night. Last year, we had so much fun passing out candy and seeing all the trick or treaters. So this year, I wanted our decorations to be a little more spooky but not scare the younger children.

At Target, I saw the skeleton dogs and knew I had to get one to represent Scooby. After all, he is the dog behind A House and A Dog. Joe is his favorite companion, so together they sit on the bench.
I also added a faux black crow from Michael’s. If you saw my Instagram story, I was terrified to pick it up and purchase it. I don’t like birds much, but fake birds FREAK ME OUT! I took a few deep breaths, grabbed it by the price tag and took it to the register. Even the cashier was looking at me funny for the way I was carrying it and I’m sure my face was white as a ghost.
Once, I got home I had Joe take it out of the bag for me and help me attach it to the skeleton. He was able to hold the birds body without freaking out like I would, and I hurried and tied it with a string so it won’t fall off or fly away. 🙂
I used a mix of faux pumpkins and real. I’ve had most of the faux pumpkins for years, and found the cute Cinderella pumpkins at Lowe’s this year. I loved that they were orange, but not overly bright so they go with my more neutral theme for decorating.
I created three zones for the pumpkins, with 3-4 pumpkins each – white, black, and orange. Perfect for Halloween. Once, again the Target Dollar Spot was great for little items like the banner and pillows. I never like to spend too much money on seasonal décor, because I probably won’t be creating this look next year and I’ll create something new. Life of a blogger!
The faux spider webbing finishes off the spooky look and is a great décor filler for little money. But the Target Halloween Mat is one of my favorites! I also added some bats to our front door. Originally I planned for a wreath, but this was a much better option.
I used one of our lanterns from the back patio for some spooky lighting. The flameless candle is on a timer, so it comes on each night and I don’t have to worry about it. The lantern reminds me of the Headless Horseman, hmmm maybe that will be my theme for next year!
Joe and I can’t wait for all the little trick or treaters! Do you love Halloween too?
